County, California (February 10, 2022) – A 56-year-old Calistoga man was killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision south of Calistoga on Thursday morning, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened at around 9:18 a.m. on Highway 29, just south of Diamond Mountain Road.

According to the CHP, the Calistoga man was driving a GMC Sierra 1500 southbound on Highway 29 when, for an unknown reason, he crossed over the double yellow lines into the opposite lanes and collided head-on with a northbound Ford E-250 , driven by a 51-year-old Napa man.

Deadly Car Crash on Highway 29 in Napa County

The driver of the GMC, that vehicle's sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Ford van driver sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a hospital. His passenger, a 33-year-old Napa man, was transported by land ambulance to a local hospital in unknown condition.

Highway 29 was closed for at least two hours following the wreck.

The crash remains under investigation.
