, California (June 21, 2022) – Narayana Zerr, 35, has been arrested by police following a deadly DUI collision that claimed a life and injured three others on Sunday night in Clovis.

According to a California Highway Patrol dispatch, the collision happened a while before 7:00 p.m. on June 19, at Ashlan Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue.

Per the report, Narayana Zerr was heading west on Ashlan Avenue in a black pickup when he drove into approaching traffic and crashed head-on into an eastbound SUV. The impact caused the pickup to spin and overturn.

Firefighters and medical personnel arrived at the scene and declared the SUV driver, 41-year-old Ashton McKiernana of , dead at the scene.

Ashton's wife, 41 years, a one-year-old kid, and a two-year-old suffered injuries in the collision. The three patients were taken to the hospital for treatment. One of the children suffered severe injuries, while the other sustained moderate wounds.

Narayana Zerr, the truck driver, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He was put into the County Jail on a $93,500 bail.

An investigation is underway.

Fresno, California (June 19, 2022) – A man was killed in a suspected DUI head-on collision that left two other people injured in Clovis on Sunday evening.

The deadly crash was reported at around 7 p.m. on Ashlan Avenue near Sunnyside Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A black truck reportedly drifted into the eastbound side and slammed head-on into the man's Nissan sedan.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's wife and one of their two children were injured in the crash and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The truck driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

More details about the crash were not provided.

CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.

Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

The report indicates that the traffic fatalities in the following categories showed relatively large increases in 2021, as compared to 2020;

      • Fatalities in multi-vehicle collisions went up 16%
      • Fatalities among drivers 65 and older rose by 14%
      • fatalities up 13%
      • Fatalities in crashes involving at least one large truck up 13%
      • Daytime fatalities up 11% Fatalities on urban roads up 16%
      • Motorcyclist deaths up 9% Bicyclist deaths up 5%
      • Fatalities in speeding-related mishaps up 5%
      • Fatalities in police-reported, alcohol-involvement collisions up 5%
