Man Killed in North County Pedestrian Accident on Interstate 5 near Basilone Road

North County, California (September 22, 2021) – A pedestrian died after being struck by several vehicles Tuesday night in North County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly pedestrian accident happened at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, on Interstate 5 near San Onofre State Beach and just south of Basilone Road.
The CHP said the pedestrian, only identified as a male victim, was walking in the northbound lanes of the interstate when a Toyota Corolla struck him. He was then hit by several other vehicles.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, despite life-saving measures performed by responding paramedics. His name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
A passenger in the Toyota, a 25-year-old man, was taken to a hospital with major injuries. His current condition remained unknown.
The Toyota driver, a 47-year-old woman, did not suffer any injuries, authorities said.
It is undetermined if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash.
No other details were immediately provided.
The accident remains under investigation.
