Police Officer Injured in San Diego Crash on Interstate 5 near State Route 76

San Diego, California (April 29, 2022) – A San Diego police officer was struck and injured by a vehicle on U.S. Interstate 5 on Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident was reported at about 6 a.m. near State Route 76.
CHP said a 47-year-old Granada Hills resident was driving a semi-truck south on I-5 when its two tires came off and rolled into the southbound lanes.
A San Diego police officer reportedly stopped at the scene shortly after and attempted to remove the tires from the roadway.

The officer was hit in one of the southbound lanes by a 22-year-old Rancho Santa Margarita man operating a BMW.
The officer was treated for minor injuries following the incident.
Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to have played a role in the crash.
The CHP is investigating the incident.
