Victorville, CA. – Authorities have identified an officer killed in an accident at an intersection in Victorville early Sunday morning.
Officer Carlos Gonzalez was involved in a traffic collision at around 1:45 a.m. July 21 at La Mesa and Amethyst Roads.
Reportedly, a blue 2002 Ford Ranger broadsided a black 2021 Toyota Camry.
The Ford overturned and landed on the grass at Liberty Elementary School, while the Camry sustained significant damage.
Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was critically injured.
The occupants, possibly three, of the Camry were transported to a hospital as a precaution.
An investigation is ongoing.

Victorville, CA. – One person was killed in a car crash that left one other person with critical injuries early Sunday morning in Victorville.
The fatal collision happened near the intersection of La Mesa and Amethyst Roads at around 1:47 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
A black 2021 Toyota Camry and a blue 2002 Ford Ranger reportedly collided near Liberty Elementary School in unclear circumstances. The collision caused the Ford Ranger to overturn and land on grass near the intersection.
One person was killed in the crash.
A second person was airlifted to a trauma center with critical injuries.
More details about the accident were not released.
The Victorville Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
