Officer Harminder Grewal Among 2 Killed in Sacramento Crash on Highway 99 near Dillard Road

Sacramento, California (August 23, 2021) – Officer Harminder Grewal of the Galt Police Department, who sustained critical injuries in a Sunday morning traffic accident in south Sacramento, has died, police said.
The deadly accident occurred at about 4:35 a.m., on August 22, on Highway 99 near Dillard Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Manjot Singh Thind, 25, of Manteca, was driving a Dodge Ram pickup southbound on Highway 99 when he crashed through the center divider into the northbound side and collided head-on with a northbound Galt police patrol vehicle.
The police vehicle had two occupants and was heading to the Caldor Fire.

Officer Harminder Grewal was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, where he succumbed to his injuries. The other officer, Kapri Herrera, was also hospitalized with critical injuries and was in stable condition on Monday.
Thind was pronounced deceased at the scene. His two passengers, a 26-year-old from Dublin and a 26-year-old from Turlock, were taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
