Santa Cruz, Calif. – A police officer was injured in a car accident that happened on Sunday evening in Santa Cruz.
The accident happened around 8:17 p.m. on southbound Highway 17 near La Madrona Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 24-year-old officer was driving a 2020 Dodge Charger SUV and was approaching the scene of an earlier crash when a 2000 Jeep Cherokee crashed into the patrol car.
The officer was transported to an out-of-county trauma center for treatment.
The 25-year-old Santa Cruz woman who was driving the Jeep was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Two passengers in the Jeep were treated at the scene and released.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
