The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision took place around 3:18 a.m. on northbound Interstate 605 near State Route 60.
Authorities said a big rig collided with a Caltrans vehicle under unclear circumstances. The big rig caught fire after the crash.
Approximately 100 gallons of diesel leaked from one of the vehicles across traffic lanes.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported the big rig driver to Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
Multiple lanes in the area were closed for an extended period to allow the vehicles to be removed from the scene and the oil to be cleaned.
