Placer County, CA. – A passenger died, and a driver was hospitalized after their vehicle struck a tree along a freeway Thursday evening in the Penryn community of Placer County.

CHP Auburn Division reported that the driver of a Toyota 4Runner may have lost control after experiencing a tire blowout. The SUV veered off the side of the freeway and hit a tree on the right shoulder.
A female passenger in the car died in the accident.
The male driver was hospitalized with major injuries.
Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
CHP officers are investigating the incident.
