Pedro Macias Jr., ID'd as Man Killed in Tehama County Crash on Highway 99E near South Avenue

Tehama County, California (September 15, 2021) – Pedro Macias Jr., 60, of Chico, has been identified as the man who was injured in a Thursday morning head-on collision that killed one person in Tehama County, according to the Tehama County Coroner's Office.
The deadly accident occurred at about 12:18 a.m., on September 9, on Highway 99E, south of South Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Casey Allen Thomas, 28, of Red Bluff, was driving a 2018 Dodge SUV northbound in the southbound lanes on the highway when a southbound 2016 Peterbilt big-rig driven by Macias Jr., struck him.
Following the collision, the Dodge came to a rest on its wheels, blocking the northbound lanes, and the Peterbilt was blocking the southbound lanes.

Sadly, Thomas, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Macias, who was also wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Enloe Medical Center with moderate injuries.
It was not clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
