Pedestrian Killed in Atascadero Collision on Highway 41 near Santa Rosa Road

Atascadero, California (September 21, 2021) – A pedestrian was killed in a collision involving a DUI driver in Atascadero on Sunday night.
The incident was reported at around 7:39 p.m. September 19, on Highway 41 near Santa Rosa Road.
Atascadero police said a DUI driver in a jeep was eastbound on Highway 41 when he crossed into the path of oncoming vehicles and collided with another vehicle.
The driver of the jeep fled from the scene after the incident.
Pedestrian Killed in Atascadero Hit-And-Run Crash on Highway 41
Authorities said a male pedestrian was also struck by the jeep. The pedestrian died in the accident.
The people riding in the vehicle that was hit by the suspect sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Police conducted an investigation into the incident and located the suspect on Monday morning. The suspect, identified as Jorge Castaneda, 26, of Paso Robles, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.
The incident is under investigation.
