2 Airlifted after Phelan Car Crash on Phelan Road and Johnson Road
Phelan, California (November 30, 2021) – Three people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Monday afternoon at an intersection in Phelan, a local news source reported.
Two of the patients were airlifted to the hospital after the 2:34 p.m. crash that occurred at Phelan Road and Johnson Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident involved a black Nissan Altima sedan, a white Ford F-250 pickup truck and a silver Jeep Renegade SUV.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the sedan ran a red light at the intersection and t-boned the pickup truck, then flew into the SUV that was waiting to make a right turn onto Phelan. The sedan then overturned upside down.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the scene to find the driver of the sedan trapped in the vehicle. That driver was unconscious, and firefighters took about 25 minutes to free him. He was only identified as a male in his late 20's.
A female occupant in the SUV was critically injured, and a male occupant of the pickup truck suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Two helicopters responded to the scene and airlifted the critically injured female party and the driver of the sedan to the hospital. A ground ambulance also responded to the scene and transported the occupant of the pickup truck to a local hospital.
The crash forced the closure of Johnson Road in both directions as investigators worked the scene.
The wreck occurred about 4-5 miles from the scene of another collision that involved a school bus several hours earlier.
