Rhett Zerboni Arrested after Deadly Irvine Scooter Crash at Barranca Parkway and Red Hill Avenue
Irvine, California (September 14, 2022) – Rhett Joseph Zerboni, 37, of Anaheim, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a crash that left a scooter rider dead in Irvine on September 6, according to the Irvine Police Department.
The wreck happened in the area of Barranca Parkway and Red Hill Avenue at about 9:07 p.m.
Police said Zerboni was driving a black Hyundai sedan in the area when he collided with Boyue Huang, 19, of Irvine, who was riding a MiniMotors Speedway Nano Pro electric scooter.
Huang was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on September 12.
Police said alcohol and drugs were believed to be factors in the crash. They arrested Zerboni and booked him into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of DUI.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
