Richard Barry Killed in Dog Attack near Goldridge and Balboa Streets in Selma

Selma, California (August 1, 2022) – Authorities identified the man who died after he was attacked by dogs in Selma as 59-year-old Richard Barry.
Barry, also called Hutch by his family members, was attacked by five dogs at around 1 p.m. near Goldridge and Balboa streets.
The Selma man had just left his brother's home, which is around the corner, and was walking in the neighborhood when he was attacked.
Barry's brother, Ronny, and sister-in-law Teresa Barry were driving by when they witnessed the attack. Teresa jumped in and attempted to help but was also bitten. Ronny has ALS and could not help because he is unable to walk.
Selma police responded and rendered aid. The officers, together with an Animal Control Officer, captured and quarantined the animals.
Barry died of his injuries at a local hospital, where he was rushed for treatment. Teresa sustained minor injuries.
The dogs escaped from a nearby home, police said.

Selma, California (August 1, 2022) – A Sunday afternoon Selma dog attack left a man dead and another injured, according to the Selma Police Department.
At around 1:02 p.m., a team from the police department was dispatched to Goldridge and Balboa streets after reports of a man being mauled by several dogs.
Upon arrival, the officers found a man being attacked by the canines and another person attempting to separate the animals from the victim.
The officers rendered aid to the victim. Emergency personnel arrived and transported the man to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Deadly Dog Attack near Goldridge and Balboa Streets
Unfortunately, the 52-year-old Selma man died of his injuries. His name was not immediately released.
The person who was helping the victim sustained minor injuries from a bite by one of the dogs.
An Animal Control Officer helped the officers to capture and quarantine the dogs. The specific number of the canines involved in the attack was not mentioned.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the dogs escaped from a nearby home and attacked the man while walking through the neighborhood.
Officers investigating the incident said the owner of the dogs is cooperating.
