Police said Swartling was riding his Honda HRV southbound when he tried to make a left turn onto Coos-Sumner Lane and was hit by a Range Rover Evoque heading northbound.

Coos County, OR. – 85-year-old Richard Swartling of Coos Bay was killed following a two-vehicle accident on Tuesday afternoon in Coos County, according to the Oregon State Police.
The accident happened at 12:27 p.m. July 9, on Highway 101, near milepost 243.
Police said Swartling was riding his Honda HRV southbound when he tried to make a left turn onto Coos-Sumner Lane and was hit by a Range Rover Evoque heading northbound.
Swartling sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital where he died.
The Range driver, 45-year-old Icel Marie Bair of Nampa was hospitalized with severe injuries due to the collision.
Authorities blocked the highway for around five hours to give way to an on-scene investigation.
Police believed impairment and speed played a role in the collision.
An investigation is underway.
