Rodrigo Tapia Junior ID'd as 13-Year-Old Boy Killed in Escondido Crash at North Broadway and Country Club Drive

, CA – The teenager who died following a vehicle crash in Escondido on Saturday night has been identified as Rodrigo Tapia Junior, 13, according to a local news source.

The Escondido Police Department said the wreck took place at around 10 p.m. on April 28, near North Broadway and Country Club Drive.

Authorities said a driver, identified as Alexander Tito Oroz, 20, was traveling south when he failed to stop for a red light and collided with an eastbound vehicle.

Firefighters and medics who responded to the scene helped the parties involved in the crash

Life-saving measures were performed on Tapia Junior, who was critically hurt.

He was then taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

An 18-year-old Escondido woman who sustained major injuries was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital while an Escondido man, also seriously hurt, was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital.

Oroz was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.

He was also taken to Tri City Hospital for treatment and later booked into the jail.

The crash is under investigation.
