Penryn, Calif. – The authorities have identified a hit-and-run driver who died after running into the lanes of 80 Freeway as 31-year-old Samuel Lee Cook.

According to the CHP, Cook was a suspect in a hit-and-run crash and had been stopped by an officer. The officer had him pull over to the right shoulder of I-80, west of King Road.

Reportedly, Cook exited his vehicle and ran into the lanes of the freeway where he was struck by an oncoming big rig.

Penryn, Calif. – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly traffic collision involving a and at least two vehicles on the 80 Freeway on Wednesday.

According to the CHP, a driver involved in a hit-and-run crash on 80 Freeway died after running into oncoming traffic during a traffic stop just further down the freeway. The initial incident happened early Wednesday afternoon on east of Penryn.

One of the drivers fled the scene after the crash. The other driver remained at the scene and gave the CHP officers the description of the suspect vehicle – a 2003 Toyota Tundra. The officers eventually located the suspect and pulled him over.

The driver exited the Tundra and ran into the freeway where he was struck by an oncoming big rig near King Road.

The pedestrian, only identified as a white man, suffered injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
