1 Person Killed in San Diego Crash on Interstate 8 near Interstate 5
San Diego, California (September 27, 2021) – One person died following a wrong-way crash involving a suspected drunken driver early Sunday morning in San Diego County, authorities said.
The deadly collision occurred at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday, September 26, on Interstate 8, just east of Interstate 5, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Reportedly, a black BMW was traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate 8 when it collided head-on with a silver Honda Accord.

The Honda driver sustained major injuries and later died. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
Authorities later determined that the driver of the BMW was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision. The motorist sustained moderate injuries and is expected to be fine.
Further details regarding the crash were not immediately provided.
The accident remains under investigation.
