Rider Suffers Major Injuries in San Diego Accident on 8 Freeway near 15 Freeway

San Diego, California (September 30, 2021) – A motorcyclist was severely injured in an 8 Freeway crash that happened Thursday morning in San Diego, the California Highway Patrol reported.
At around 7:43 a.m., a motorcycle collided with a Lexus in the westbound lanes of the freeway near the Interstate 15 connector.
A female driver who called authorities to report the accident said she was blocking traffic with her blue Ford Freestyle to shield the motorcyclist.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel responded to the scene to help the rider who suffered major injuries.
No other details were given about the wreck, but CHP is investigating.
Motorcycle Accidents in California
In 2019, California was leading in the number of registered motorcycles in the USA. The state has also, over the years, recorded high numbers of motorcycle accidents resulting in catastrophic injuries or death.
Some of the common causes of motorcycle collisions in California include:
- Motorcycle lane splitting
- Cars making left turns
- Speeding
- Driving under the influence
- Road hazards
Motorcyclists are more likely to suffer serious injuries when an accident happens compared to car passengers. This is so because motorcycles do not have many safety features such as airbags, safety belts or steel cage to protect riders. Instead, they rely on helmets and protective riding suits only.
