Gilroy, CA. – A 79-year-old San Mateo woman died in a head-on collision involving a big rig that happened Monday afternoon in Gilroy.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Highway 152 near Highway 156.
Investigators said the San Mateo woman was driving a 2010 Lexus on the highway when she veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2023 Kenworth semi-truck.
The woman died from injuries she sustained in the crash. Her name was not immediately released.
It was not clear if the driver of the big rig was hurt.
Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be contributing factors, as per CHP.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
