68-Year-Old Nipomo Man Killed in Santa Maria Crash on Highway 101 near Main Street

Santa Maria, California (May 10, 2022) – A deadly two-vehicle collision occurred on Monday morning in Santa Maria, the California Highway Patrol said.
At around 9:43 a.m. on May 9, authorities were called to the scene of a collision between a 2007 Nissan 350Z and a 2002 Honda CRV on Highway 101, just north of Main Street.
According to the report, the vehicles were northbound on Highway 101 when one of them made an unsafe lane change, leading to the collision.
The impact caused the Honda to flip multiple times and it slammed through the center dividing wall into the southbound side.

The driver of the Honda, a 68-year-old Nipomo man, was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Nissan, 20-year-old Marcos Salazar of Santa Maria, was not hurt.
CHP said alcohol and drugs were not suspected to have played a role in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
