Santa Maria is one of the most populous cities in California. Many people find it easy to live or work in the city, which has led to more cars on the roadways. This has, in turn, left many road users, like pedestrians, vulnerable to auto accidents. In 2019, there were 4 fatal accidents in Santa Maria, which led to six fatalities. Drunk motorists accounted for 2 of the total fatalities that year. Pedestrians get hit by drivers who fail to observe the set traffic laws. Some of the common errors that drivers make include drunk driving, speeding, failure to yield to the right of way, and distracted driving.
