Santa Maria, CA. – An 80-year-old Santa Maria man was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on State Route 101 in Santa Maria Wednesday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at around 12:15 p.m. on May 22 on Highway 101 near Union Valley Parkway.
The man was driving a southbound Honda Civic and approaching stopped traffic. For unknown reasons, he failed to slow down and rear-ended a Dodge Durango. The Durango struck a Dodge pickup truck.
The Civic driver suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Marian Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Five people in the other cars suffered injuries and two of them were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and released.
The identity of the deceased was not immediately released.
More information about the wreck was not available.
An investigation is underway.
