Sergio Mata Among 2 Killed in Taft Car Accident on Highway 33 and Wood Street

Taft, California (August 22, 2022) – Sergio Andres Lopez Mata, 46, from Tijuana, Mexico, was among two people who died in a crash involving a suspected DUI motorist in Taft on Sunday night, according to the Kern County Coroner's Office.
The wreck happened shortly after 9 p.m. on August 21, on Wood Street and Highway 33.
A small car and a semi-truck were involved in the collision.
Mata was among two passengers in the car who died in the crash. The second victim was identified as Edgar Eduardo Herrera Garcia, 35, of Bakersfield.
The driver of the car, Flurencio Martinez, 20 of Bakersfield, was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving charges.
The authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.
