, California (May 4, 2022) – Servillan Perez Lopez of Santa Maria was hospitalized following a big rig crash that left one person dead in Santa Maria on Monday morning.

According to California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened at around 6:30 a.m. on May 2, near Philbric and Betteravia roads.

Servillan Lopez was a passenger in a 2007 Honda Civic that was southbound on Philbric Road and tried to turn left onto Betteravia Road.

The Honda was struck on its left side by a 2006 Peterbilt semi- traveling west on Betteravia Road.

The big rig then left the roadway, struck a power pole and a fence, before its trailer overturned.

The crash killed one of the passengers in the Honda. The victim was only identified as a 44-year-old Santa Maria man.

Servillan Lopez sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the big rig, Fidel Gomes Reyes, 64, of Santa Maria, suffered moderate injuries while the other driver, Domingo Perez Lopez, 32, of Santa Maria, suffered major injuries. They were also taken to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment. 

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. employees responded to the scene to repair damaged power lines caused by the incident.

The CHP is investigating the accident.
