Stephen Kritz Killed in San Luis Obispo Accident on Tank Farm Road
San Luis Obispo, California (August 1, 2022) – Stephen James Kritz, 64, of San Luis Obispo, has been identified as the man killed in a Saturday morning collision involving a suspected DUI driver in San Luis Obispo, according to the California Highway Patrol.
David Downs, 62, of Morro Bay, was arrested following the collision that took place on Tank Farm Road at around 8:14 a.m. on July 30.
According to CHP, Downs was driving east on Tank Farm Road in a 2012 Chevrolet when he drifted into the westbound side and crashed into an eastbound 2003 Volkswagen.
Kritz, who was driving the Volkswagen, was killed in the collision.
Downs suffered major injuries and was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.
Authorities said Downs was arrested on suspicion of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing injury or death.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

San Luis Obispo, California (July 31, 2022) – David Downs, 62, of Morro Bay, was arrested after an accident that left one person dead in San Luis Obispo on Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened on Tank Farm Road at about 8:14 a.m. on July 30.
According to CHP, Downs was driving a 2012 Chevrolet eastbound on Tank Farm Road when he crossed into the westbound side and collided with an eastbound 2003 Volkswagen.
The driver of the Volkwagen, a 63-year-old man, was killed in the collision.
Downs was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo with major injuries.
He was also arrested on suspicion of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, and DUI causing injury or death.
The CHP is investigating the incident.
