Car Passengers Hurt After Suspect Evading Police Triggers Multiple Collisions in Union City

Union City, CA. – Several people were injured when a driver of a suspected stolen car caused several collisions Thursday morning in Union City.

According to the Union City Police Department, police officers received reports of a stolen car in the area of Tamarack Drive and Mission Boulevard around 8:15 a.m.

The officers responded to the area and found the suspect had already driven away with the stolen vehicle.

The suspect had crashed into the outside of a business in the area while fleeing, damaging tables and chairs.

Authorities said shortly after departing the area, the suspect drove onto Tamarack Drive, hit a University of California transit , and kept driving.

A police officer noticed the driver approaching an intersection and started approaching the car. The suspect drove in the opposite direction after realizing the officer was approaching them.

The stolen car drove westbound on Decoto Road and collided with another car, which in turn struck a third vehicle.

Passengers inside one of the cars hit by the suspect were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries. They are expected to be OK.

The suspect was apprehended “for various charges.”

No other details were given, but an investigation is ongoing.
