, CA. – One person died in a single- that happened Sunday morning in Santa Rosa, authorities reported.

According to the California Highway Patrol, emergency personnel responded to North Laughlin Road west of Laughlin Road around 9:40 a.m. after they were notified about the incident.

The responders found a Ford Edge SUV overturned about 12 feet down an embankment with the driver still inside.

The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene.

An initial investigation revealed that the man was driving the car westbound when, for an unknown reason, the car left the roadway and hit a concrete support before going down the embankment.

Authorities said the exact time when the collision happened was not certain, and could have transpired between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
