Timo Martinelli Killed in Stanislaus County Crash on Crows Landing Road near Harding Avenue

Stanislaus County, California (July 7, 2022) – Timo Martinelli, 21, of Ceres, has been identified as the driver who was killed in a head-on collision in Stanislaus County on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office.
The incident took place on Crows Landing Road, south of Harding Avenue, at around 4:26 p.m. on July 6.
According to California Highway Patrol, Martinelli was driving a 2003 Honda Accord north on Crows Landing Road when he drifted into the path of oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a southbound 2019 Honda Civic driven by Valerie Torres, 34, of Newman.
CHP said Martinelli was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the collision.
Torres sustained major injuries and was transported to Doctors Medical Center by ambulance.
It's unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
Both sides of Crows Landing Road were closed between Harding Avenue and Bradbury Road as authorities investigated the incident.
The collision remained under investigation.

Stanislaus County, California (July 6, 2022) – At least one person is dead following a two-vehicle collision at an intersection in Stanislaus County, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The deadly collision occurred at about 4:25 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Crows Landing Road and Harding Road.
As per the report, the crash involved a white sedan and a black sedan. First responders found the drivers of both vehicles unresponsive.
CHP officials say at least one person was killed in the crash.
No additional details regarding the crash were provided.
The incident remains under investigation.
Crash Fatalities in California Went Up in 2021, Early Federal Estimates Show
Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities caused by traffic crashes on U.S. freeways reached a 16-year high in 2021. The crash deaths also increased in almost every state, including California, according to NHTSA.
According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021 in the U.S. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.
NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
In California, 4,258 people died in traffic collisions in 2021 – a 10.7% increase from 2020's 3,847, as per the NHTSA report titled – “Crash Stats: Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021.”
According to the traffic deaths estimates, in the two-state region that includes Arizona and California, crash fatalities in 2021 are projected to go up by 10% over the previous year.
