CHP said an Infiniti was going eastbound on the highway when it entered the westbound traffic and collided with a Chevy, then caught fire
Modesto, Calif. – Two people died, and two others suffered major injuries in a fiery car accident that happened late Wednesday afternoon near Modesto, the California Highway Patrol said.
Authorities received reports of the collision around 5:44 p.m. on Highway 132 west of Gates Road.
According to an initial investigation, an Infiniti was going eastbound on the highway approaching Gates Road when it crossed into the westbound traffic and collided with a Chevy Suburban.
The Infiniti caught fire after the collision.
Each vehicle had two occupants at the time of the collision.
Those in the Infiniti died at the scene.
Emergency personnel transported the occupants of the Chevy to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Highway 132 was closed in both directions between Gates Road and River Road for investigation.

Modesto, Calif. – At least one person was killed in a car accident on Wednesday evening in Modesto.
The accident was reported around 5:43 p.m. on Highway 132 near Gates Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reportedly, multiple vehicles were involved in the collision. Two of the cars caught fire after the collision.
CHP says at least one person was killed in the accident.
The identity of the deceased person was not immediately disclosed.
More details about the accident were not released.
