Livermore, CA. – A 30-year-old Merced man died after he lost control of his motorcycle and was struck by a big rig Thursday morning in Livermore, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident took place around 5:40 a.m. on westbound Interstate 580 between the North Livermore Avenue off-ramp and the Isabel Avenue off-ramp.
According to CHP, the Merced resident was riding a 2019 Suzuki GSX-S motorcycle at a high rate of speed, splitting lanes when he lost control of the bike and got ejected onto the roadway, and a big rig struck him.
The motorcyclist died in the crash. His name will be released when his next of kin is notified about his death.
The driver of the big rig stopped on the Isabel Avenue off-ramp and waited for authorities to arrive.
Traffic in the area was severely affected following the crash.

CHP says the motorcycle collided with an unknown truck, and it may have been struck by other vehicles after the first impact.
The rider was pronounced dead at the crash site.
