5 People Injured in Sunday Afternoon Collision at Commodore Dr and King Rd in San Jose

, CA. – Five people, including a sheriff's deputy, were injured in a collision involving a Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle that happened Sunday afternoon in San Jose.

The wreck took place around 12:35 p.m. near Commodore Drive and King Road.

According to the San Jose Police Department, a deputy was pursuing a car when they collided with an SUV unrelated to the chase.

Four occupants of the SUV were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The deputy also sustained minor injuries.

The sheriff's office said the chase began near Berryessa Road and North Capitol Avenue after deputies attempted to pull over a speeding driver who failed to cooperate and sped away.

 Authorities said after the crash happened, other deputies continued to pursue the suspect. They used spike stripes to immobilize the suspect's car and then apprehended the driver when he tried to run off on foot.

The man is suspected of driving a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of stolen property, evading a peace officer, and delaying or obstructing arrest.
