Riverside, CA. – 37-year-old Christian Barragan died in a multi-vehicle DUI accident that happened Wednesday evening at an intersection in downtown Riverside.
According to the Riverside Police Department, the crash occurred just after 6 p.m. at Market Street and Fifth Street.
Police said 19-year-old Isaac Isaiah Villalba from Redlands was driving a Dodge Challenger southbound on Market Street at a high rate of speed when he crashed into the rear of a slower-moving Honda Civic driven by Barragan.
The force of the collision sent the Civic into the northbound lanes, causing it to collide head-on into another car heading northbound on Market Street.
Villalba's Dodge continued after the first impact and struck another car as it came to rest.
After the crash, Villalba tried to flee the scene and resisted officers with violence but was safely taken into custody.
Barragan, a resident of Riverside, was transported to Riverside Community Hospital in grave condition. He died from his injuries less than an hour later.
Several people, including Villalba and the other two drivers, were taken to the same hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
Villalba was later arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of DUI, second-degree murder, hit-and-run resulting in death, and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $1 million.

Riverside, CA.- One person was killed and several others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision in Riverside on Wednesday night, according to the Riverside Police Department.
The incident took place on Market Street near 5th Street at about 6:15 p.m. April 16.
A driver reportedly collided with multiple other vehicles in the area then tried to flee the scene.
One person was confirmed dead at the scene.
Six patients were transported with minor to moderate injuries.
The suspect who tried to flee the scene was placed under arrest after the accident.
The identities of the involved parties were not immediately released.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
