A preliminary investigation revealed a 2020 Hyundai was traveling westbound on the highway when the driver entered the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass a big rig and collided head-on with a 2005 Ford F350 driven by McKenzie.

Templeton, CA. – Authorities have released the identity of the victim injured in a deadly head-on crash on State Route 46 in Templeton Tuesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported on Highway 46 near Cholame Y.
A preliminary investigation revealed a 2020 Hyundai was traveling westbound on the highway when the driver entered the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass a big rig and collided head-on with a 2005 Ford F350 driven by Grant McKenzie.
The Hyundai driver and the passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities were withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
McKenzie was transported to Adventist Health Sierra Vista Hospital in San Luis Obispo with major injuries.
An investigation is ongoing.

Templeton, CA. – Two people were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 46 in Templeton at around midnight.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on State Route 46 near Cholame Y.
Reportedly, a Hyundai attempted to pass a truck trailer when it veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Ford.
One of the vehicles caught fire.
As a result, both the driver and passenger in the Hyundai sustained fatal injuries and were reported dead on the scene.
The driver of the Ford, a 59-year-old man from San Diego, was taken to a local hospital after sustaining major injuries.
The identities of the deceased were not disclosed.
Impairment was not believed to have played a role in the wreck.
An investigation is underway.
