Roberto Sanchez of El Cajon Killed in Kearny Mesa DUI Accident on State Route 52; Driver Charged
Kearny Mesa, California (September 3, 2022) – The man who died last month in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver in Kearny Mesa has been identified as 49-year-old Roberto Mendez Sanchez of El Cajon, as per a local news source.
The collision occurred at around 2:45 a.m. on August 26 on State Route 52 near Convoy street.
According to an initial investigation, Sanchez was driving a Honda heading west on the highway when an eastbound Chevrolet pickup truck veered into the westbound lanes, causing a head-on crash.
Sanchez died of injuries sustained in the collision.
23-year-old Maricela Elizabeth Diaz was driving the Chevrolet and was hospitalized with minor injuries. She was later arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Diaz was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other DUI-related charges.

Kearny Mesa, California (August 26, 2022) – The authorities are investigating a deadly traffic collision that happened on Friday morning in Kearny Mesa, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident took place shortly before 2:45 a.m. on SR-52 near Convoy Street.
A red car and a pickup truck were involved in the collision.
The driver of the red car died at the scene of the accident. The operator of the pickup was extricated and transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
One of the vehicles is believed to have been traveling the wrong way prior to the collision.
All westbound lanes of SR 52 were closed as authorities investigated the incident.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
