Victim of Deadly Santa Paula Car Accident on Highway 126 Identified

Santa Paula, CA. – 56-year-old Delfina Hurtado of Bakersfield died in a multi-vehicle accident that happened Thursday morning on Highway 126 in Santa Paula, the County Medical Examiner's Office reported.

A 25-year-old woman was arrested following the crash that happened around 5 a.m. near Wells Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the Oxnard woman was driving a white 2005 Toyota Sienna van eastbound on the highway when she lost control of the vehicle and drove illegally in the center divider.

The van collided with a white 2011 Ford Ranger pickup truck, which subsequently collided with a silver 2015 Dodge Durango SUV.

The impact sent all the vehicles off the roadway into a tree on the right shoulder of the eastbound highway.

Hurtado was a passenger in the SUV and died in Los Robles Regional Medical Center where she had been rushed for treatment.

Several others were hospitalized after the collision, including a 33-year-old Pomona woman driving the SUV, her two juveniles aged 1 and 2, and a 36-year-old Santa Paula man driving the pickup truck.

Police said the Oxnard woman driving the van was also hospitalized with major injuries, including a broken ankle. She was also arrested on suspicion of felony offenses.

Prior to the crash, callers had informed authorities seeing a van with a sliding door open on the driver's side driving “all over the roadway,” police said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Ventura County, CA. – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle collision near Santa Paula in Ventura County on Thursday night.

The collision happened on Highway 126 near Wells Road at around 5 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

A white 2005 Toyota Sienna van was headed eastbound on the highway when the driver lost control while illegally driving in the center divider and hit a white 2011 Ford Ranger pickup truck.

The pickup truck then crashed into a silver 2015 Dodge Durango SUV. All three vehicles then veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree.

A 56-year-old Bakersfield woman who was a passenger in the SUV was transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center where she died while receiving treatment.

A 33-year-old Pomona woman who was driving the SUV and her two juvenile passengers, aged 1 and 2, were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The Oxnard woman driving the Toyota van was hospitalized with major injuries including a broken ankle.

A 36-year-old Santa Paula man who was driving the pickup truck was taken to the hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
