Scarlett Medel Killed in Hesperia Two-Car Accident at Cottonwood Avenue

Hesperia, CA – The County Sheriff's Department has identified the mother killed while on her way to pick up her son from school at an intersection in Hesperia Wednesday afternoon as Scarlett Medel, 29, of Hesperia.

The mishap occurred at around 1:52 p.m. December 18 at Cottonwood Avenue and El Centro Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Medel was traveling east on El Centro Street and had stopped at the stop sign before entering the intersection.

As Medel proceeded into the intersection, her vehicle was struck on the driver's side by a silver 2008 Mazda 3 south on Cottonwood Avenue operated by a 62-year-old male resident of Hesperia.

Emergency personnel from the Fire Department transported Medel to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

The intersection was closed for several hours as deputies from the Hesperia Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) investigated the scene.

Hesperia, CA – A woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision at an intersection in Hesperia Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened at around 1:51 p.m. at Cottonwood Avenue and El Centro Road, according to the Hesperia Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed a mother was en route to pick up her son from school in a black Honda sedan when her car was struck on the driver's side by a gray 2008 Mazda3.

The Honda sedan sustained significant damage to the driver's side door while Mazda3 had major front-end damage.

The woman, whose name was not disclosed, died at the scene.

The nature of injuries sustained by the other driver involved remains unknown.

The intersection was shut down during the on-scene investigation.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Hesperia Station is investigating to determine the cause of the wreck.
