Watsonville Couple Seriously Injured in DUI Crash on Freedom Boulevard in Corralitos

Corralitos, California (December 23, 2021) – A man and a woman, both from , were seriously injured last week on Friday in an alleged DUI crash in Corralitos, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision happened at around 4:15 p.m. Friday, December 17, in the 2900 block of Freedom Boulevard.

The CHP said Levi Barnard, 39, of Watsonville, was driving a white 2018 GMC Sierra Denali pickup westbound on Freedom Boulevard when, for unknown reasons, he allowed the vehicle to drift into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an eastbound 2008 GMC Sierra pickup driven by a 35-year-old man.

After the impact, both vehicles came to a stop on the eastbound shoulder with heavy front-end damage.

Major Injury Crash in Corralitos

The driver of the 2008 GMC pickup and his passenger, a 32-year-old woman, were both trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by firefighters.

The Watsonville couple was then airlifted to out-of-country trauma centers with major injuries. Their current condition was not available.

Barnard sustained minor injuries and was transported to Watsonville Community Hospital. He was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Police closed Freedom Boulevard for over one hour while they investigated the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
