4 Seriously Injured in West Covina Crash on Interstate 10 near Holt Avenue

, California (January 1, 2022) – Four people were seriously injured in a traffic collision in West Covina on Friday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

The incident occurred on Interstate east of Holt Avenue just before 11:41 p.m. December 31.

According to the CHP, a 25-year-old man was driving a 2020 Kia Optima westbound on the freeway when he slammed into the rear of a 2007 Ford Expedition.

The SUV then crashed into the center divider, spun back into the traffic lanes and was hit by a 2012 Toyota Highlander.

Several Injured in West Covina Crash on I-10

The 25-year-old man driving the Kia and his two passengers, identified as a 26-year-old Chicago woman and a 25-year-old man, were all taken to Valley Hospital Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.

One person in the Highlander also suffered serious injuries and was transported to / USC Medical Center.

The driver of the Highlander, a 36-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital with complaints of pain. Two other occupants of the Highlander had abrasions and at least one of them was transported to hospital for treatment.

No other injuries were reported.

CHP said the driver of the Kia was arrested for unspecified reasons.

The crash is under investigation.
