
Camarillo, Calif. – A woman was killed after her car was struck by a train at a rail crossing in Camarillo on Tuesday morning, according to a police report.
The deadly accident happened at about 10:36 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the railroad crossing near Upland and Lewis roads.
Investigators say the car was apparently stopped on the track when it was struck by an Amtrak Surfliner 765, adding that the engineer saw the car stopped on the tracks and applied the brakes but was unable to stop in time.
The 63-year-old woman, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was flown to a local hospital and pronounced dead.
The woman is believed to be a transient.
The incident remains under investigation.
