Menifee, CA. – A 65-year-old Menifee woman died in a fiery collision that happened Thursday evening near an intersection in the city.
According to the Menifee Police Department, the accident occurred just before 6 p.m. at Briggs Road and Gardner Lane.
Police officers responded to the scene and found a 2018 Kia Sportage engulfed in flames after crashing into an embankment.
The solo driver, only identified as a Menifee woman, 65, was trapped inside the burning car. The officers were unable to free the victim due to the fire. It was unclear if the driver was conscious.
Riverside County Fire Department personnel arrived minutes later and put out the flames.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire had spread to nearby brush, burning in a northerly direction on a hillside. The firefighters took about an hour to extinguish the burning vegetation. About 2 1/2 acres burned but no homes or structures were affected.
Investigators suspect the woman may have experienced a medical emergency while behind the wheel, causing her to drive off the roadway.
An investigation is ongoing.
