Modesto, CA. – A 30-year-old woman died after she was struck by a vehicle Thursday night in Modesto, the California Highway Patrol said.
The incident was reported to authorities around 11:40 p.m. in the No. 1 lane of southbound Highway 99 near South 9th Street.
CHP said the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and was walking north in a dark area of the roadway when she got hit by a pickup truck heading south from 9th Street.
The woman died at the scene, the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office said.
The driver of the pickup truck, 53-year-old Ana Rodriguez from Winton, said she did not see the pedestrian in the roadway and could not avoid hitting her. She was not injured in the crash.
An investigation is ongoing.
