Encinitas, Calif. – A woman was struck and killed by a train Saturday morning at an intersection in Encinitas.
According to the San Diego Sheriff's Department, the incident happened shortly before 8 a.m. on February 10 at Chesterfield Drive and San Elijo Avenue.
The police said the woman was hit by a southbound North County Transit District Coaster train in unclear circumstances.
The female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the crash site.
The identity of the deceased was released pending notification of the next of kin.
No additional information about the collision was provided.
An investigation is underway.
