, Ariz. – A female driver was killed Tuesday morning after two vehicles collided head-on in Tucson, according to Arizona police.

The crash occurred at about 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23 on East Old Vail Road, south of Valencia Road, and involved a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Sequoia.

Authorities say a 27-year-old woman was driving the Toyota Sequoia eastbound on East Old Vail Road when she drove left of center, across a center multi-use lane, and into the westbound lane where it collided head-on with an oncoming Toyota Corolla.

Police say the driver of the Corolla, a 40-year-old woman, was killed in the crash. Her passenger was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Sequoia was also taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with serious injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the Sequoia was impaired at the time of the collision.

Additionally, narcotics and paraphernalia were found on the deceased driver. However, it was not immediately determined whether drugs and/or alcohol were in her system at the time of the collision.

The Sequoia driver faces potential felony charges pending investigation.

The incident remains under investigation.
