Yang Vue Killed in DUI Fresno Crash at Jensen Avenue and Marks Avenue

Fresno, California (July 5, 2022) – Authorities have identified 38-year-old Yang Vue of as the person killed in a DUI collision on Saturday morning.

According to a California Highway Patrol dispatch, the accident happened around 4:00 a.m. July 2, at Jensen Avenue and Marks Avenue.

According to the report, 24-year-old Angie Hlee Thao was traveling northbound on Marks Avenue towards Jensen Avenue in a white 2002 Acura RSX when he drove through a stop sign and crashed into a black 2013 Nissan pickup .

Emergency crews rushed to the scene to attend to the crash victims. The medics confirmed that Vue, Thao's front-seat passenger, died due to the collision. On the other hand, Thao sustained severe injuries in the accident. She was treated at Community Regional Medical Center.

The truck driver, 39, and his female passenger sustained minor injuries in the crash. A boy, 15, driving in the Nissan, did not suffer injuries in the crash.

Authorities arrested Angie Thao on suspicion of manslaughter and DUI. 

However,  officials said Thao is still in the hospital receiving treatment. She was on bond for a prior DUI arrest from January 2022 at the time of the accident on July 2.

An investigation is underway.

Crash Fatalities in California Went Up in 2021, Early Federal Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities caused by traffic crashes on U.S. freeways reached a 16-year high in 2021. The crash deaths also increased in almost every state, including California, according to NHTSA.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021 in the US. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.

NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

In California, 4,258 people died in traffic collisions in 2021 – a 10.7% increase from 2020's 3,847, as per the NHTSA report titled – “Crash Stats: Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021.”

According to the traffic deaths estimates, in the two-state region that includes Arizona and California, crash fatalities in 2021 are projected to go up by 10% over the previous year.
